Information we use
We process account and security details, profile and listing information, enquiries, reviews, reports, preferences, service activity, and the minimum evidence submitted for ownership claims or verification. We receive information from you, other users, authorised administrators and—only for lawfully sourced directory records—identified public sources. Private evidence is never displayed publicly.
Location search and maps
When you ask us to resolve a place name, that search text is sent through our server to the configured OpenStreetMap geocoding provider. Device coordinates are used only for the search you initiate and are not stored. Public profile markers use deliberately reduced precision.
Why we use it
We use information to provide the directory and requested account features, authenticate users, route enquiries, moderate and verify content, prevent abuse, keep records of important decisions, comply with law and protect people and the service. Depending on the activity, we rely on performance of a contract, our legitimate interests in operating a safe and accurate directory, consent where requested, or a legal obligation.
Who receives it
Enquiry contact details are shared with the professional you choose to contact. Carefully selected providers support hosting, private object storage, transactional email, abuse prevention, maps and geocoding. They receive only what their service needs and act under appropriate terms. We may disclose information where required by law or needed to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.
International use
The directory is available worldwide. Where a provider processes information outside the UK, we use an adequacy decision or an appropriate contractual safeguard and assess the transfer. Contact us for information about the safeguard applying to a particular provider.
How long we keep it
Enquiries are scheduled for deletion after 18 months. New claim and verification evidence is scheduled for deletion after six months and, once a review is decided, normally within 30 days unless a dispute or legal hold requires longer. Account data is kept while the account is active and then deleted or anonymised subject to fraud-prevention, security, dispute and legal-record needs. Other records are kept only for the documented operational or legal period needed for their purpose.
Your rights
Depending on the processing, you may ask for access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability, or object to our use of your information. Use the privacy request form or email us. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data-protection authority.
